Vol. 498 No. 1

Written Answers. - Property Acquisitions.

Brian O'Shea

Ceist:

362 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Education and Science the land and premises purchased by each of the institutes of technology in 1998; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [26447/98]

I have approved the purchase of the following sites and premises for the institutes of technology during 1998 to date:- Dublin Institute of Technology, premises at Capel Street, New Bride Street, and Sackville Place; Cork Institute of Technology, a 23 acre site adjoining the main campus of the institute at Bishopstown; and Waterford Institute of Technology, 170 acres, of which approximately 50 acres are to be retained following a feasibility study.

The acquisition of the premises and sites were essential to the continued development of these institutes. In the case of the Dublin Institute of Technology, the acquired premises were needed to provide accommodation for additional student numbers. In the case of the Institutes of Technology at Cork and Waterford the purpose was to provide for the development of adequate and appropriate recreational and car-parking facilities to meet the needs of staff and students.
