Ceist:373 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will sanction the appointment of an eighth teacher for St. Lawrence's national school, Ballintone, County Kildare, in view of the rapid increase in pupils. [26532/98]
Written Answers. - School Staffing.
St. Lawrence's national school has an authorised staffing in the current school year of a principal and six teachers. This allocation is based on the school's September 1997 enrolment of 191 pupils.
I understand that the enrolment at the school has increased to 213 pupils in the current school year. Unfortunately, this increase is insufficient for the appointment of an additional teacher in accordance with developing school criteria.
