Vol. 498 No. 1

Written Answers. - Harbours and Piers.

Austin Deasy

Ceist:

61 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources if he will provide further moneys in conjunction with Waterford County Council to continue the works which have been carried out at the boatcove in Ardmore, County Waterford, to make it secure for fishing boats and pleasure craft in all weathers; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [26573/98]

The harbour infrastructure at Ardmore is owned by Waterford County Council and development or maintanance works are, therefore, the responsibility of the local authority in the first instance.

My Department provided grant aid of £45,000 to Waterford County Council in 1995 to support an overall investment of £75,000 in improvement works at Ardmore. The county council has not, to date, made a proposal to my Department concerning further development works at Ardmore. Any proposals which the local authority wishes to put forward will be considered carefully having regard, inter alia, to available funding mechanisms and overall infrastructure investment priorities.
