Vol. 498 No. 3

Written Answers - Garda Deployment.

Michael Ring

Ceist:

149 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform when a sergeant will be appointed to a town (details supplied) in County Mayo. [27078/98]

The detailed deployment of Garda personnel to individual areas is a matter for the Garda authorities. They have informed me that the personnel strength, as of 9 December 1998, at the station referred to in the question is two gardaí. I understand, however, that one of the sergeants based at the district headquarters for the station concerned has supervisory responsibility relating to all policing matters for the sub-district of the station.

The Garda authorities have further informed me that when members of sergeant rank next become available for allocation, the question of filling the sergeant's vacancy at the Garda station referred to in the question will be fully considered in conjunction with the filling of similar vacancies throughout the country.
