Vol. 498 No. 3

Written Answers - Schools Building Projects.

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

178 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education and Science the requirement in terms of extra facilities including square footage and proposed use at Scoil Dara, Kilcock, County Kildare; the intentions or commitments, if any, he has in respect of these proposals; when these will be implemented; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [27180/98]

The building unit of my Department is currently awaiting stage three, outline sketch scheme, of architectural planning from the school authorities. A total of 1,897 square metres of accommodation is to be provided in the new extension, but at this stage of architectural planning it is too early to say when construction will commence.

Ceist:

179 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education and Science the extent of his commitments in respect of extra facilities required at Scoil Mhuire, Clane, County Kildare; if these commitments are in accordance with the requirements as set out by the school authorities; the square footage and proposed use of the facilities now proposed; the full and final extent of the facilities available when the proposed extension is completed; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [27181/98]

Architectural planning for the proposed extension to Scoil Mhuire, Clane, is well advanced and stage five, bill of quantities, is due in my Department before the end of 1998. The accommodation needs of the school authorities are being met and 2,088 square metres of extra accommodation is being provided in the new extension.

When architectural planning has been completed, the question of inviting tenders will be considered. It is not possible to say at this stage when construction will commence.
