Ivor Callely

Ceist:

73 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Public Enterprise if she has satisfied herself that TEAM Aer Lingus employees, who have not accepted terms for the transfer of employment to FLS, have been accommodated with appropriate positions in the airline matching their skills; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [27064/98]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 16, 72 and 73 together.

I refer the Deputy to my replies to parliamentary questions on 10 November 1998.

The sale of TEAM Aer Lingus to FLS should be completed within the next few days. I understand that the number of TEAM Aer Lingus employees who have chosen not to accept terms for the transfer of their employment to FLS has reduced to 91. These 91 employees have all returned to the airline with 42 having been accommodated with positions matching their skills and the remainder in other positions.

I met this morning with trade union officials representing those workers who have been accommodated in positions that are not matching their skills. I understand that many of these are not satisfied with their positions and I believe that this difficulty should be the subject of further consultations between their unions and Aer Lingus management.

Aer Lingus advises me that the amounts due to each employee transferring to FLS will, subject to completion of the deal, be paid before Christmas.
