Vol. 499 No. 1

Written Answers. - EU Directives.

Frances Fitzgerald

Ceist:

175 Ms Fitzgerald asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the resources and personnel available to transpose EU Directives into Irish law; if he has satisfied himself with the rate of progress of this implementation; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1621/99]

The full resources and personnel of each Division of my Department are available as appropriate to transpose EU Directives into Irish law. In addition, the service of the Office of the Attorney General is available to my Department to assist in drafting the necessary legal instruments.

I am pleased with the current situation within my Department, where implementation of only one EU Directive, (97/61/EU) is overdue. In this particular case it is believed that existing legislation in fact provides for the terms of the particular Directive.
