Vol. 499 No. 1

Written Answers. - Commemorative Plaques.

Tony Gregory

Ceist:

250 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Defence if he will have arrangements made for commemorative plaques to be placed in Arbour Hill or at some other appropriate location listing the names of all those who participated in the various garrisons in Dublin in the 1916 Rising. [1374/99]

As the Deputy is aware, the State honours and will continue to honour the memory and sacrifice of those who died in the 1916 Easter Rising at the annual Commemoration Ceremony at Arbour Hill. The leaders of the Rising are buried at Arbour Hill. In addition a plaque containing the names of those known to have died at that time, as well as the names of Thomas Kent and Roger Casement who died later in that year, was unveiled there in April 1966 by the then President of Ireland.

There are no plans to erect further commemorative plaques.
