254 Ms Fitzgerald asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the resources and personnel available to transpose EU directives into Irish law; if he has satisfied himself with the rate of progress of this implementation; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1621/99]
There is no specific section or staff designated in my Department to transpose EU directives into Irish Law. The position is that each Division has responsibility for such work that falls within the overall area of its responsibilities including the transposition of directives.
Over the past five years some 82 directives have fallen to be transposed by my Department. The vast majority of these have been transposed by the due date. Work is progressing on the outstanding directives and every effort is being made to finalise their transposition within the requisite time frame.
