Vol. 499 No. 1

Written Answers. - Irish Seal Sanctuary.

Enda Kenny

Ceist:

392 Enda Kenny asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if he has received a proposal from the Irish Seal Sanctuary for assistance in setting up a site in order to discharge its functions for caring for and rehabilitating injured and distressed seals; if his attention has been drawn to the fact that Fingal County Council has made an offer of a very suitable site for this work; if his attention has further been drawn to the public interest in the work being carried on by the Irish Seal Sanctuary; if he will give consideration towards providing some of the £500,000 necessary in order to set up this site; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1721/99]

As I have indicated in my reply to Parliamentary Question No. 113 on 16 December 1998, I consider that support for the activities and operations of the Irish Seal Sanctuary is not a matter for my Department but rather for others who have responsibility for the marine environment and the wellbeing of marine life.
