Vol. 499 No. 1

Written Answers. - Suckler Cow Quota.

Michael Collins

Ceist:

420 Mr. Collins asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the suckler cow quota, if any, which will be allocated to a person (details supplied) in County Cork who applied for a quota of 12 in 1998 and did not receive a quota and applied on 8 January 1999 for a quota of three. [1827/99]

An application for an allocation of suckler cow quota from the 1999 national reserve has been received from the person named.

Some 4,000 farmers have applied for an allocation of suckler cow quota from this reserve. These application forms are presently been recorded and it is not possible to say at this stage, what the outcome of any individual application will be. It is expected that all applicants will be informed, by the end of February, of the outcome of their applications.

The person applied for an allocation of suckler cow quota from the 1998 national reserve but the amount of quota available for distribution from that reserve was such that farmers with a low level of livestock units, i.e., under 5.8, received an allocation. The person named had 27 livestock units and there was, therefore, insufficient quota in the reserve to enable an allocation to be made to him.
