Ceist:

450 Mr. Connaughton asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the number of farmers by county in the rural environmental protection scheme; the total expenditure on the scheme over the past five years; and the average payment per farmer over those five years. [2086/99]

Since its inception in 1994 just over £321 million has been expended on the scheme, with an average annual payment to farmers amounting to £3,650.

The following is a county by county breakdown of the number of farmers approved for participation in REPS:
