The Government Information Service issued 255 speeches and statements on my behalf in 1998. The number of speeches is indicative of the high number of official engagements which I undertook in the course of this year. All scripts of substance are posted on the Internet. All scripts are copied to the Library in the Houses of the Oireachtas and are available from the Government Information Service. The previous Taoiseach, Deputy John Bruton, issued approximately 122 speeches from May 1996 to May 1997. There was roughly the same number of speaking notes for that period.
