Vol. 499 No. 1

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

Charles Flanagan

Ceist:

717 Mr. Flanagan asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if his attention has been drawn to the unsatisfactory situation that exists in south west Offaly with reference to mains water supply in the Milltown, Barna and Shinrone areas; and if he will make a commitment that funding will be forthcoming in 1999. [1877/99]

My Department has no proposals from Offaly County Council relating to water supplies in the Milltown, Barna and Shinrone areas of County Offaly. If the council is formulating a proposal it would come within the terms of my Department's circular L9/98 of 22 October 1998. This circular asked each local authority to undertake a fresh assessment of the needs for capital works in its area and to prepare a prioritised list of projects based on the assessment. The priority lists will be taken into consideration by my Department in framing future water sewerage services investment programmes under the next National Development Plan 2000-06.
