729 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he will report on the progress of the feasibility study into the proposal for a tax on plastic bags which was due to be completed by the end of 1998; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2081/99]

The consultancy study in question, concerning plastic bags and their impact on the environment, was recently completed and I am considering its conclusions and recommendations.
