Ceist:

598 Mr. Gormley asked the Minister for Health and Children if he envisages further resignations as a result of recommendations in the Deloitte & Touche report that outlined mismanagement of the Tallaght Hospital in view of the resignation of the chief executive officer of the hospital; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1908/99]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 73 and 598 together.

Dr. McCutcheon's contract of employment is with the board of management of the Adelaide and Meath Hospital, Dublin incorporating the National Children's Hospital. I have not had any communication concerning the reasons for Dr. McCutcheon's resignation, other than those set out in the statement issued by the board following his resignation. Dr. McCutcheon's decision to resign was a matter for himself and I respect his decision.
I am not aware that any further resignations are being considered either as a result of the Deloitte & Touche report or consequential to Dr. McCutcheon's decision.
The report from Deloitte & Touche provides an agreed basis for addressing the current goverance and management problems at the hospital and I had discussion with representatives of the board of management of the hospital last month about its implementation.
These discussions resulted in agreement on the way forward. I announced today the establishment of a three person group, with support from management consultants, to assist the hospital in the implementation of the report.
