Vol. 499 No. 1

Written Answers. - Third Level College Development Plan.

Michael Noonan

Ceist:

874 Mr. Noonan asked the Minister for Education and Science if he has considered the development plan submitted to him by the management of Mary Immaculate College, University of Limerick; if his attention has been drawn to the stress placed on staff and students arising from the lack of space and facilities; if he will sanction the implementation of the development as soon as possible; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [28335/98]

The development plan drawn up by the authorities of Mary Immaculate College, Limerick, is currently receiving in-depth consideration and will be the subject of ongoing discussions between my Department, the college and the Higher Education Authority. Preliminary discussions have already taken place with the college authorities and specific arrangements have been made for further discussions designed to progress the matter. In the meantime I have made available to the college an immediate initial allocation of £500,000 towards the cost of computer equipment and health and safety works.
