Vol. 499 No. 1

Written Answers. - Higher Education Grants.

Richard Bruton

Ceist:

903 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Education and Science the reason the higher national diploma in media and business in Ballyfermot college is refused recognition for maintenance grant in view of the fact it is essential for students wishing to progress to degree level in this line of study. [1018/99]

Under the terms of the maintenance grant scheme for students attending post-leaving certificate courses, candidates are eligible to apply for a means tested maintenance grant for attendance at full-time post-leaving certificate courses of at least one years' duration and approved by the Minister for Education and Science for the purposes of this scheme.

I understand from City of Dublin Vocational Education Committee that the course in question is the higher national diploma in music management and production in Ballyfermot senior college. This is an approved course for the purposes of the PLC maintenance grants scheme. Students attending this course should contact the City of Dublin VEC regarding their eligibility for maintenance grant under the scheme.
