Vol. 499 No. 1

Written Answers. - Health Risks.

Nora Owen

Ceist:

86 Mrs. Owen asked the Minister for Health and Children whether the water tanks through which water is supplied to the James Connolly Memorial Hospital, Blanchardstown, Dublin 15, pose any health risk; and his views on whether the conditions under which the tanks are stored are appropriate. [1937/99]

The water supply for drinking and cooking at James Connolly Memorial Hospital is supplied via water mains pipe from the main water tank to the point of consumption. The main water tank is in good condition and poses no risk to the patients and staff at the hospital.

Secondary water storage for sanitary services, that is, toilet and washing facilities, is provided at each unit by way of water tanks. The condition of the enclosures of these tanks has deteriorated over time. These tanks will be replaced as part of the major redevelopment of the hospital which will commence before the end of this year. In the meantime the Eastern Health Board is attending to the tank covers and the ceiling over the tanks.
