Michael Ring

Ceist:

965 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Education and Science the new local contribution amount necessary for an extension to Carrankenny national school, Westport, County Mayo, in view of his announcement of 10 January 1999. [1485/99]

The local contribution that will be required towards an extension at Carrakennedy national school, Westport will be 10 per cent of the capital cost subject to a ceiling of £25,000.

Michael Ring

Ceist:

966 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Education and Science the percentage the local contribution amount is being reduced to for extensions to existing primary schools; and, if no reduction is planned, the reason in this regard. [1487/99]

Michael Ring

Ceist:

967 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Education and Science when the reduction in the local contribution rate for existing primary schools as announced recently will come into effect. [1488/99]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 966 and 967 together.

The standard local contribution for extensions to existing schools has now been reduced to 10 per cent and is capped at £25,000. For schools classified as disadvantaged, the local contribution is 5 per cent and is capped at £10,000. The new rates of local contribution came into effect from 10 January.
