Vol. 499 No. 1

Written Answers. - Attention Deficit Disorder.

Ruairí Quinn

Ceist:

139 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for Health and Children if his attention has been drawn to the severe difficulties caused by the withdrawal of a special list service for attention deficit disorder at Our Lady's Hospital for Sick Children, Crumlin, Dublin 12; and the plans, if any, he has to replace this service. [1956/99]

I understand from Our Lady's Hospital for Sick Children, Crumlin, that in April 1998 an appointment was made on a temporary basis of a psychologist to provide general support to psychology services at the hospital and to provide an assessment of children presenting with attention deficit disorder with hyperactivity (ADDH). The appointee resigned during the week ending 24 January 1999.

The hospital authorities are in discussion with hospital clinicians concerning the future provision of the service for such children and a meeting on the matter has also been sought with the Eastern Health Board.
