Vol. 500 No. 1

Written Answers - Phoenix Park.

Tony Gregory

Ceist:

254 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands further to Parliamentary Question No. 164 of 25 November 1998 when a decision will be made regarding the Spa Road, Dublin 7. [3169/99]

Since the Deputy last tabled a parliamentary question on this subject, my Department has conveyed views to the Office of Public Works on their proposals for the expansion of Dublin Zoo in the context of the public consultation process announced by that office last October.

In relation to the Spa Road, I have suggested to the Office of Public Works that further consideration be given to the feasibility of accommodating a cycle way and pedestrian access through this roadway. I have also informed local residents of my support for this objective, while pointing out that major difficulties would have to be overcome in terms of the logistical and financial issues involved.

I am expecting a response from the Office of Public Works within the next few weeks and I expect to be in position to make a final decision on the subject soon afterwards. I will be happy to convey my decision to the Deputy at that time.
