Vol. 500 No. 1

Written Answers - Grant Payments.

John Perry

Ceist:

413 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for Education and Science if the decision made on an educational grant for a person (details supplied) in County Roscommon will be rescinded in view of the fact that her mother's income from April 1997 to September 1997 is annualised when in fact she was not in receipt of the widow's pension until September 1997; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3540/99]

In accordance with the change of circumstances clause of the European Social Fund-aided maintenance grant scheme, a candidate's eligibility for grant aid may be reassessed in the event of a change in reckonable income which is likely to be permanent. This change in circumstances may be positive or negative and in either situation the revised income is annualised and the grant entitlement assessed thereon. My officials have checked the method of assessment in this case with Roscommon VEC and I understand that the correct procedure was followed in this case.
