Vol. 500 No. 1

Written Answers - Pension Entitlements.

Bernard Allen

Ceist:

108 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Public Enterprise if, further to Parliamentary Question No. 135 of 2 December 1997 on behalf of a person (details supplied) in Cork, she will make a statement on the ongoing contact between the parties mentioned in that response; and if a mutually settled arrangement has been reached in order that his service with CIÉ and Aer Lingus can be linked for pension purposes in accordance with the superannuation and pensions Act, 1963. [3202/99]

I regret to say that no agreement on this issue as yet exists between the State companies concerned. As I informed the Deputy previously, the service in question predates the formal arrangements for transfer of credit for pensionable service. On the basis of actuarial advice, Aer Lingus requires a payment of commensurate funds from CIE's regular wages staff scheme before it will grant credit for past service. While I have encouraged the parties in question to reach a mutual agreement on this issue, I must stress that, as Minister, I have no function in the day-to-day operation of the respective superannuation schemes.
