Vol. 500 No. 1

Written Answers - Planning Appeals.

Dick Spring

Ceist:

116 Mr. Spring asked the Minister for Defence the basis upon which his Department lodged an objection with An Bord Pleanála relating to a planning permission (details supplied) in County Kerry in view of the fact that his Department officials had entered into an agreement with the landowner, wherein it was stated that his Department would not prohibit or object to any new buildings other than areas designated and agreed by both parties to the said agreement. [3590/99]

The Department lodged an objection with An Bord Pleanála to the proposed development in Ballydunlea because of its close proximity to the rifle range. The noise levels emanating from the rifle range could be a source of annoyance to potential occupiers and the discharge of ordnance could present possible dangers in the immediate area. There is no record of any agreement between the landowner and the Department in relation to the proposed development.
