Vol. 500 No. 1

Written Answers - Tax Rebates.

Pat Carey

Ceist:

191 Mr. P. Carey asked the Minister for Finance when a person (details supplied) in Dublin 11 will receive a tax rebate; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3190/99]

I am informed by the Revenue Commissioners that on 6 February 1998 the taxpayer submitted a claim for a foreign earnings deduction in respect of his income tax liability arising from time he spent working abroad in the period from November 1996 to March 1997. The inspector of taxes wrote to the taxpayer requesting him: (a) to obtain a letter from his employer confirming the dates on which the taxpayer was employed outside the State; and (b) to forward the letter to the inspector. The inspector needs detailed information about the dates on which the taxpayer was employed outside the State in order to process the taxpayer's claim and calculate the amount of the refund which may be due. To date, however, the requested information has not been received.

When the taxpayer forwards the required letter, the inspector will process the claim as quickly as possible.
