Vol. 500 No. 7

Written Answers. - Extensification Premium.

John Perry

Ceist:

214 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if a payment of a 1997 area aid extensification payment will be released to a person (details supplied) in County Sligo in view of the serious financial pressure he is under; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4781/99]

In accordance with EU regulations, extensification premium is paid to herdowners with a stocking density of less than 1.4 LUs per hectare. The person in question applied for and was paid suckler cow premium on 59 suckler cows. Each cow is equivilant to 1 LU. He applied for special beef premium on 34 animals under the ten month scheme and one animal under the 22 month scheme. All these animals were under two years, therefore they were each counted at 0.6 livestock unit each i.e. 35 × 0.6 = 21 LUs. He also submitted and was paid on a ewe premium application for 18 ewes each at .15 LU 18 × .15 = 2.70 LUs. The total livestock units are 82.70-59 + 21 + 2.7. The total area declared by the person in question on the 1997 area aid application was 57.77 hectares. The total livestock units of 82.70 divided by the hectares of 57.77 gives a stocking density of 1.43 LUs hectare. As the stocking density is not less than 1.4 LUs hectare the person named has no entitlement to 1997 extensification premium.
