99 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the current situation concerning the litigation by the farm developers category of farmers who are seeking milk quota allocations or compensation; when this matter will be resolved; the basis on which it will be resolved; and his Department's policy on this matter. The Deputy will be aware that legal proceedings, which were taken by a limited number of plaintiffs, are still the subject of litigation in the High Court following the Supreme Court ruling in their favour. The judgments of the Supreme Court did not deal with the entitlements of individual plaintiffs but referred the matter to the High Court for assessment of damages. The claims made raise complex issues still to be determined by the courts.
The first of these cases is listed for hearing in the High Court beginning on 2 March 1999.
