From 1973 to 1998, inclusive, Ireland has received a net amount of IR£23,344.4 million from the EU. The details are set out in Table A which follows.
The second part of the Deputy's question is presumed to refer to the 1994-1999 Community Support Framework, the 1989-1993 Community Support Framework and pre-1989 receipts, no "rounds", as such, existed prior to 1989. The details are set out in Table B which follows. It should be noted that since 1993, Ireland has also received IR£722.59 million from the Cohesion Fund.
As regards the likely level of EU funds Ireland may receive in the future from the enlarged European Union, the Deputy will be aware that the Agenda 2000 negotiations relating to the overall financing and expenditure of the EU in the coming round, 2000-06, are yet to be decided in the negotiations currently under way, and are due to be settled by the end of March next. I do not wish to anticipate the outcome of these negotiations at this point. The incorporation of new member states in an enlarged Union is not due to commence at least until some years after 2000 and it is too soon to judge the effect of such enlargement on Ireland's level of receipts beyond that point.
