I propose to take Questions Nos. 175 to 177, inclusive, together.
As I indicated in response to previous questions from the Deputy, there are formal procedures for regular reporting to Government on the year 2000 compliance issues in respect of my Department and the State agencies under my aegis. The work within my Department is on schedule to be largely completed by end June 1999. There are regular discussions between my Department and the semi-State bodies under my aegis. I have written to chairman and chief executives highlighting the importance of this matter. I am informed that all State agencies are on target for timely completion for critical systems.
I continue to be confident in the ability of my Department and the State agencies for which I am responsible to cope with the year 2000 problem. As a matter of prudence I will be ensuring appropriate contingency plans will be in place.
There are more than 30 persons in my Department who have an involvement to varying degrees in dealing with year 2000 compliance. The number engaged in compliance work in the State agencies is a matter for the bodies themselves.
