In 1998, my Department was responsible for the following national lottery allocations: subhead G; Gaeleagras na Seirbhíse Poiblí £135,000; and subhead N; Charitable Lotteries Fund £5,448,000.
This fund makes available from the proceeds of the national lottery approximately £5 million per annum to supplement the income of the promoters of private charitable lotteries whose products are competing directly with national lottery products. The criteria used in allocating the funds among applicants were recommended by an interdepartmental advisory committee with an independent chairperson and approved by the Minister for Finance.
