Vol. 502 No. 3

Written Answers. - Long-term Illness Scheme.

Michael Creed

Ceist:

378 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Health and Children the specific entitlements, if any, from his Department for diabetics; if these entitlements are means tested; and if he will consider an awareness campaign to highlight their existence. [8194/99]

The long-term illness scheme entitles persons suffering from diabetes mellitus and diabetes insipidus to obtain without charge drugs, medicines and appliances required for the treatment of their condition. Entitlement to this scheme is not means tested.

Information on the scheme is available in my Department's Guide to the Health Services, direct from health boards and also from health professionals.
