Vol. 502 No. 3

Written Answers. - Orthodontic Services.

Alan Shatter

Ceist:

387 Mr. Shatter asked the Minister for Health and Children the waiting lists within each health board area for orthodontic treatment; the ages of those awaiting orthodontic treatment; the number who have been on a waiting list in excess of 12 months, between 12 months and two years, between two years and three years, between three years and five years and in excess of five years. [8392/99]

The provision of orthodontic treatment to eligible persons under the Health Acts is the statutory responsibility of the health boards.

Waiting lists for orthodontic treatment are maintained by the health boards and my Department does not have available to it on a routine basis information regarding the waiting lists in the detail required by the Deputy.

Accordingly, I have brought the Deputy's requirements to the attention of the chief executive officer of each health board and asked that he or she reply to the Deputy in the matter as a matter of urgency.
