Vol. 502 No. 3

Written Answers. - Job Protection.

Michael Ring

Ceist:

510 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands the contact, if any, she has made with a company (details supplied) in County Mayo that has placed its employees on protective notice; and the plans, if any, she has to meet with the company management and employees to discuss the possibility of keeping this factory open. [8491/99]

I understand from Údarás na Gaeltachta that it was informed on 15 March of the placing of the entire workforce of the company in question on protective notice. An tÚdarás has requested an urgent meeting with the chief executive officer of the parent company and I understand that that meeting is to take place on Thursday next. Every effort will be made by an tÚdarás to ensure the future of the company and for my own part I have informed management of an tÚdarás that I am available and willing to lend any assistance I can to their efforts.
