574 Mr. Gormley asked the Minister for Education and Science if staff members of his Department have received funding to attend courses; if so, the number of courses attended; the names of the courses; and the amount paid since June 1997. [7593/99]
The Department's staff training and development programme includes provision for a refund of fees to staff who attend third level and other relevant courses of study in their own time. Staff also receive funding under the Gaeleagras scholarship scheme.
A list of courses attended and the number of staff who participated in these courses since June 1997 is set out in the table. The total of refunds made to staff since June 1997 in respect of attendance at the courses listed in the table amounts to £123,596.
The Department also arranges training and development courses in-house and externally for staff members as required. Payments are made directly to the training company or institution in such cases.
