Vol. 502 No. 3

Written Answers. - School Transport.

Liam Aylward

Ceist:

610 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Education and Science if his attention has been drawn to the fact that pupils attending Templeorum national school, Piltown, County Kilkenny, arrive 15 minutes late each morning due to the fact one of the two school buses covering the route has been discontinued; and if a mini bus will placed on this route to ensure the children arrive to school on time and avoid the current disruption of the running of the school. [7894/99]

Phil Hogan

Ceist:

633 Mr. Hogan asked the Minister for Education and Science if his attention has been drawn to a loss of part of the school transport service to Templeorum national school, County Kilkenny, and the consequences that this will have on pupils; if this transport will be restored; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8071/99]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 610 and 633 together.

Prior to March 1999, two large buses operated into Templeorum national school, one catering for 11 pupils and the second catering for 21 pupils. A recent reorganisation of transport services in this area allowed for all pupils to be accommodated on one bus.

Under the revised arrangements it was found that pupils were arriving approximately ten minutes late for school each morning. I am pleased to inform the Deputies that this matter has now been resolved by bringing forward the first pick-up time by ten minutes, thus ensuring that all pupils arrive for school on time.
