Vol. 502 No. 3

Written Answers. - School Staffing.

Liz McManus

Ceist:

618 Ms McManus asked the Minister for Education and Science if a remedial support teacher for Delgany national school, County Wicklow, will be attached to two schools including Delgany national school; and if another remedial support teacher will be employed to service the other two schools, in view of the difficulty in having a remedial teacher who has to cover four separate schools. [7941/99]

I understand that the Deputy's particular concern relates to the remedial teacher service which Delgany national school currently shares with three other adjacent schools.

My priority at this stage is to ensure that all first and second level schools which currently have no remedial teacher service will be given access to such a service from September next. Arrangements to put this extension of service in place are currently being made in my Department.

The needs of the schools to which the Deputy refers will be considered in the event of additional remedial teacher posts becoming available for allocation to schools which are already included in the service.
