Vol. 502 No. 3

Written Answers. - Youth Services.

John McGuinness

Ceist:

631 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Education and Science the position regarding an application for funding from Ossory Youth, New Street, Kilkenny; if his attention has been drawn to the fact that the grant allocations have not been announced for 1999, certain youth workers in Kilkenny have been put on protective notice and areas of disadvantage in Kilkenny are not receiving proper services; if the application will be expedited and funding increased; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8030/99]

While my Department has not yet finalised its allocations for 1999, instalments based on the level of allocations in 1998 have issued to the national youth organisations under the terms of the youth service grant scheme and to the relevant grant administering agencies under the terms of the grant scheme for special projects to assist disadvantaged youth.

Proposals for the provision of new initiatives in 1999 under the disadvantaged scheme, including that submitted by Ossory youth, are currently being examined by my Department and I would hope to be in a position to make announcements in this regard in the near future.
