Training and development opportunities are provided for staff in my Department as part of our overall strategy to ensure effective work performance and to make the optimum use of limited staff resources. Expenditure is allocated to computer training, a wide range of skills and development programmes, attendance at seminars and conferences and the refund of fees scheme, whereby staff are financially supported for attending third-level courses in their own time which are relevant to the work of my Department and the wider Civil Service.
From June, 1997 to date, the total expenditure on training has been £162,382.36. A breakdown of this expenditure is outlined in the following table.
