Vol. 502 No. 6

Written Answers. - Mental Handicap Services.

Róisín Shortall

Ceist:

207 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will make resources available to St. Michael's House, Dublin 14, in order that additional day care places can be provided to meet the huge demand on the agency; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8815/99]

While an initial number of day places have been allocated to the various agencies in the Eastern Health Board region, the final position regarding the overall number of places which are to be put in place in 1999 is still under discussion between the agencies and the board. Of the 66 which have been allocated to date, six have been allocated to St. Michael's House Services. I understand that the Eastern Region Central Mental Handicap Planning Committee will be meeting shortly after Easter to finalise this matter.

I will let the Deputy have details of the final position as soon as the board notifies my Department of the outcome of their discussions with the agencies.
