Vol. 502 No. 6

Written Answers. - Housing Grants.

Michael Ring

Ceist:

231 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the schemes, if any, available for Irish people living in England to return home and be housed, particularly pensioners; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8741/99]

There is no scheme currently available specifically to house emigrants from Ireland who wish to return home. Many who wish to return home are in a position to provide housing from their own resources. Others, however, may need to apply to a local authority or approved voluntary housing organisation. Applications or inquiries about eligibility for local authority housing should be directed by the individual to the local authority in whose functional area they wish to reside. Information on accommodation provided by approved voluntary housing organisations may be obtained from the Irish Council for Social Housing (84 Merrion Square, Dublin 2) who are the representative organisation for the voluntary and non-profit housing sector.
