Vol. 502 No. 6

Written Answers. - Smoke Alarms.

Noel O'Flynn

Ceist:

237 Mr. O'Flynn asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if his attention has been drawn to a proposal by Lisburn District Council in County Antrim to make the fitting of a smoke alarm compulsory in all dwelling houses; and his views on whether this policy should be introduced on a national basis in the interests of fire safety. [8818/99]

My attention has not previously been drawn to this proposal but I have asked my Department to get details of it. Present policy relating to the installation of smoke alarms is given in the reply to Question No. 151 of 24 February 1999.
