Vol. 502 No. 6

Written Answers. - Departmental Staff.

Michael Ring

Ceist:

264 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs the reason a former civil servant is being refused re-entry to his Department as a clerical assistant when she believed her career break was fully within her entitlements. [8903/99]

The person referred to in the Deputy's question was a former civil servant in my Department who availed of a career break from 3 January 1989. The maximum period of career break is five years and accordingly, at the end of five years, the options open to the person concerned were either to resume duty or to resign from the Civil Service. The person concerned did not respond to the communications from my Department outlining these options and, in accordance with normal practice in these cases, she was deemed to have resigned her Civil Service position.
