Vol. 502 No. 6

Written Answers. - Special Olympics.

Richard Bruton

Ceist:

301 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation the support available from official sources for athletes taking part in the special Olympic games in North Carolina in 1999; and if gymnasts competing in the games are entitled to any support with their personal expenses. [9102/99]

Special Olympics Ireland has been allocated a total grant of £163,095 under the 1999 grant scheme for approved governing bodies of sport. The grant provides support in the areas of administration, international competition and training, international events and meetings, and organisation development. It includes, under the heading of international competition and training, £60,000 towards the costs of attending the 1999 Special Olympic Games in North Carolina. It is a matter for the organisation to prioritise the costs against which this contribution will be expended.
