78 Ms Coughlan asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources if funding has been provided for a new pier and harbour at Killybegs, County Donegal; the timescale for completion; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8848/99]
I am committed to the development of Killybegs harbour and am pursuing as a matter of priority the upgrading of this key fishing port. I have also provided £1.7 million in respect of urgently needed repair works to steel piles in the existing piers and tenders are being sought for these works.
I am pleased to inform the Deputy that I am providing funding of £869,000 in 1999 for site investigations and studies in connection with the provision of new facilities at Killybegs to advance this work as quickly as possible in the current year.
