Vol. 502 No. 6

Written Answers. - Rail Services.

Noel O'Flynn

Ceist:

105 Mr. O'Flynn asked the Minister for Public Enterprise if she will seek EU funding for the upgrading of the rolling stock on the Dublin to Cork rail service to the type of rolling stock recently introduced on the Dublin to Belfast route in view of the fact that these are the only two railway lines designated as priority lines of the main European rail network. [8830/99]

The Deputy will understand that the allocation of railway rolling stock to any particular route is an operational matter for Iarnród Éireann.

However, I can tell the Deputy that a submission for post-1999 EU funding has been made by CIE for 18 railway carriages for the Dublin-Cork route at an estimated cost of £24 million.
