Vol. 503 No. 2

Written Answers. - Curragh Camp Facilities.

Derek McDowell

Ceist:

25 Mr. McDowell asked the Minister for Defence when he received a report regarding the swimming pool at the Curragh Camp; the recommendations of this report; the action, if any, he will take on foot of this report; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9432/99]

A report by the consulting engineers engaged by my Department to advise on the works necessary to restore the swimming pool facilities at the Curragh Camp was recently received. The report contains recommendations on a number of options for extensive upgrading and modernising of the existing installation and for the provision of a new complex which would cater for the broader water training requirements of Defence Forces personnel. The recommendations and the associated costs are being examined at present with a view to reaching the best value for money solution. A decision on the matter will be taken as quickly as possible following which the detailed design work will commence in preparation for placing a contract. Financial resources will be made available as necessary for this project.
