Vol. 503 No. 2

Written Answers. - Naval Service Dockyard.

David Stanton

Ceist:

153 Mr. Stanton asked the Minister for Defence if, further to Parliamentary Question No. 180 of 1 October 1998, the review by the Naval Service authorities of the question of a renewal of the former policy of recruitment and employment of civilian apprentices at the Naval dockyard is complete; the plans, if any, there are to engage civilian apprentices in the near future; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9446/99]

The Naval Service authorities have recently submitted views on the recruitment and employment of civilian apprentices at the naval dockyard. Those proposals are currently being examined within the Department. A decision will be taken in the matter of civilian apprentices in due course in the context of preparation of an implementation plan for Naval Service development, on foot of the review undertaken by Price Waterhouse, consultants.
