Vol. 504 No. 4

Written Answers. - Compulsory Purchase Orders.

Ivan Yates

Ceist:

203 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if his attention has been drawn to the objections by local residents to the proposed design of a national route realignment and the associated compulsory purchase land acquisition (details supplied) in County Wexford; if he or his Department officials will meet the local residents who have submitted a petition outlining their objections to the public hearing into the matter; and if he will defer any decision on proceeding with this compulsory purchase order pending this consultation. [11900/99]

Wexford County Council has submitted the County Wexford Compulsory Purchase (Moneytucker-Jamestown) Order, 1998 for my confirmation. A public local inquiry into the matter was held on 27 April 1999. The local residents submitted a petition and presented their case at the inquiry. My role in determining the order is of a quasi-judicial nature and my decision must be based on the objections made and the report of the person who held the inquiry. In the circumstances the Deputy will appreciate that it would not be appropriate to meet the local residents as requested.
