Vol. 504 No. 4

Written Answers. - School Staffing.

Enda Kenny

Ceist:

270 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Education and Science if he has received a request from schools in Ballyheane, Breaffy, Derrywash, Errew, Snugboro and Scoil Raifteiri, Castlebar, in respect of increased remedial assistance; if he has had examinations made into this application; and the proposals, if any, he has to deal with the matter. [11963/99]

Rory O'Hanlon

Ceist:

276 Dr. O'Hanlon asked the Minister for Education and Science if his attention has been drawn to the difficulties at Scoil Phádraig Chorr an Chrainn, Emyvale, County Monaghan (details supplied); if the number of hours for which a remedial teacher will be available will be increased; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12074/99]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 270 and 276 together.

My attention has been drawn to the requests from the schools in question for an improved remedial service. However, my priority at present is to ensure that all schools that currently have no remedial service will be given access to this service from September next. Arrangements to put this extension of service in place are currently being made in my Department.

I can assure the Deputies that the needs of the schools to which they refer will be fully considered in the event of additional resources becoming available to improve existing remedial services.
